How to Work with Tags in WordPress

Tags provide a useful way to group related posts together. It also helps the readers to know what the post is all about. Through tags people can find your content easily. This happens because tags create keywords which link the content together. Tags are quite similar to categories in nature but they are more specific. Tags are not mandatory, they are optional. In order to add tags, you have to find the ‘tag entry box’ usually located directly under the ‘category’ box in the post or page editor. Type the specific keywords that you would like to associate with the content here. You can add tags one at a time by clicking on the ‘add’ button. Otherwise you can use the ‘enter’ and ‘return’ keys on the keyboard after typing each tag.

You can also add more/multiple tags by typing them in the ‘Tags’ box by separating each bof the word with a comma (,). Once you have finished, click on ‘update’ or publish on post editor and the new changes will take effect on your site immediately. The display of tags depends on the widgets and the theme you have activated. The tags can be displayed either at the bottom or top of the post under individual post view or on the side bar of your site. You can also assign multiple tags for posts.

Tags are important for posts though not mandatory because these help the viewers in finding relevant content. WordPress provides easy access to the writers to include them in the post.
